All are welcome. Come spend 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour. Come pray, sit, reflect and listen to Our Lord. You will not be sorry. If you have any questions, call 775-0151. Use the main entrance to MSJ. The dates for December are:  December 4, 11, & 18.

First Sunday of Advent

Lord, you have given us freedom, even though it means we can use it to turn away from you.  And you know how often we do just that.  But still you reach out to us, still you send your prophets to grab our attention, still you show us the path that leads back to you.  May we use our freedom well this Advent and open our eyes and hearts to the living presence of your Word.

                             Isaiah 63:16-17, 19; 64:2-7

ADVENT

With Advent starting up, please take a few minutes a day, maybe five minutes, and use Five Minutes with The Word to grow closer to the Lord before Christmas. Spending just a few minutes a day reading Five Minutes with The Word magazine will dramatically change your experience during Advent from one of commercialization to spiritual openness. Copies are provided by the parish and are located at the church exits. Please pick one up for your family and start a new Christmas tradition!

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE PRAYER VIGIL will be held on Sunday, December 13 at 2:00 PM in front of the Planned Parenthood center on Rte. 7/Roberts Ave. in Rutland. Catholic pro-life leaders will conduct a peaceful hour of prayer as part of an annual nationwide plea to our Blessed Mother to intercede for an end to abortion. This annual prayer vigil, conducted in the presence of an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn, has been held for at least nine years in Vermont. It is not a protest, there will be no signs, and the clinic will not be open during the vigil. Prayer is offered for all involved in abortions, especially for the conversion of those who perform them. All are advised to dress warmly and bring rosary beads. For more information, contact Alice & Charlie Brown at 773-2943.

TREE OF REMEMBRANCE – RAVNAH’s Annual Tree Lighting and Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at the Franklin Conference Center, Rutland at 6:30 PM. The Tree of Remembrance is a time for community members to gather to remember and honor someone who has died. The service includes reflections by caregivers and clergy, music by local musicians, and a tree lighting ceremony (as names are read of this year’s Hospice patients and other community members as requested).

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE NARRATIVE OF GOD’S LOVE

Saint Alphonsus Church, Pittsford presents An introduction to the Old Testament within four sessions, beginning on Tuesday, December 1 and continuing for three consecutive Tuesdays, December 8, 15 & 22 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the Parish Hall. The presenter will be Rev. Joseph Romano, Pastor of Saint Alphonsus Parish. Handouts will be given and discussion will be part of the format. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please call Saint Alphonsus at 483-2301.

SANTA CLAUS will be coming to Christ the King School on Saturday, December 5 from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. Come and have breakfast, get your picture taken with Santa Claus and write him a letter to bring back to the North Pole. Cost is $6 per adults and $5 per child/senior.

THE RUTLAND REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY, State St., Rutland is hoping to provide a gift to inmates that do not receive anything for Christmas with donations provided from people throughout Vermont. We are seeking donations of the following items:  writing paper and envelopes, playing cards (must be sealed) bars of soap, clear bottles of shampoo, wash clothes, towels, packaged candy, deodorant (must contain no alcohol), men’s athletic socks, cotton bandannas or handkerchiefs, Christmas cards, all occasion cards.  Deadline is December 13. Please leave the items at the entrances of the church marked “For Prison”. Thank you.

MEMORIAL FLOWERS FOR CHRISTMAS

FOR ST. PETER – Envelopes are available at all the church entrances. For those not acquainted with the practice, an offering is made for the decoration of the church at Christmas in these envelopes and the names of those to be remembered (which you print clearly on the envelopes) are remembered in a special bulletin. Please drop your envelope in the offertory basket, mail it or drop it off at the Rectory Office before December 14. If you are a “shut in” and are unable to pick up an envelope, please call the Rectory during the week, and we will mail you one. Thank you.

FOR ST. DOMINIC – Your envelope packets contain a Christmas flower envelope in them. Please write clearly the names of those who are to be remembered so we do not make a mistake in the spelling of the names and drop your envelope in the offertory basket, mail it or drop it off at St. Peter Rectory before December 14.

Again this year, St. Peter Church will be having a “Giving Tree”. In the spirit of Christmas, those who wish may select a gift card from the baskets at the entrances of the Church. The cards have been made to reflect the specific needs of those families that we will be helping at Christmas. Here’s how it works:

  1. Take a gift card from the basket.
  2. Purchase the gift.
  3. Wrap the gift, put the gift card on it and bring it to Church.**

**If gift purchasing and wrapping are a problem, we will shop for the gifts and wrap them for you. If you would like us to do this, please take a gift card and then put your donation for that gift in an envelope, with the gift card and put it in the offertory basket. It is very important that the gift card be attached to the gift or the donation so that we know which family it goes to. Please try to bring the gift to Church as soon as possible. Deadline for the gifts to be here is December 14. Thank you.
