“A good exercise for the heart is bending down and
helping someone to get up.” Proverb
Dear St. Peter Friends:
My heart is overwhelmed with
gratitude for your generous support of the Dismas Backpack Project. Approximately
600 items and $270 in gift cards and cash were donated to the residents of
Rutland Dismas House. Dismas House is a home where former prisoners reconcile
themselves with society and society with them. Your donations will make the
transition back into society much easier for Dismas residents, who very often
leave prison with only the clothes on their backs.
Many years ago a wonderful
woman named Mary O'Neil came to St. Peter Parish Council asking for volunteers
to cook for the House. Several parishioners volunteered and began cooking
there. Eighteen years later two of us still cook bimonthly. This has become an
incredibly fulfilling mission in my life and that of my husband, Joe. There are
many other opportunities to help out at the house. If you are interested in
volunteering, please contact me, or co-directors, Terese Black or Valerie Page,
at 775-5539.
God bless you for your kindness to those who are often forgotten or ignored, and for being thoughtful individuals who bend down to help others up.
With warmest regards,
Carol Barbagallo, Vice-President
