ADVENT

With Advent starting up, please take a few minutes a day, maybe five minutes, and use Five Minutes with The Word to grow closer to the Lord before Christmas. Spending just a few minutes a day reading Five Minutes with The Word magazine will dramatically change your experience during Advent from one of commercialization to spiritual openness. Copies are provided by the parish and are located at the church exits. Please pick one up for your family and start a new Christmas tradition!

The Activities Committee would like to thank everyone who attended the Harvest Dinner on Saturday, November 14. Special thanks to Dick and his co-workers for the great pork dinner. We also want to say “thank you” to those who helped set up, decorate and clean up. Dawn has once again donated her time to be bartender, helping with setting up and cleaning up. Jim Davidson provided music for us to enjoy during the evening. The event was a great time for people to see one another, relax and have fun. We would also like to thank Baker Distributing (Don Romano) for the bottles of wine that were donated for our raffle and to Angie for the cork screw set and bath set that were raffled off.

THE 2009 BISHOP’S FUND has surpassed its goal of $2,850,000 and has currently raised $2,908,574. Many of you and our brothers and sisters across our Diocese have made significant sacrifices to help this year. Thank you. Thank you also for all the help and hard work in this year’s campaign. St. Peter has raised $38,846.00 from 231 donors, 102% of your parish goal. Thank you again for your hard work.

SAINT MICHAEL’S COLLEGE

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

On behalf of Saint Michael’s College I am pleased to announce the continuation of our Parish Scholarship Program for students entering college in the fall of 2010. As you know, the Parish Scholarship is just one way we strive to embody the mission of Saint Michael’s as a Catholic institution founded by the Society of Saint Edmund over 100 years ago and that we recognize Vermont’s most promising Catholic students. Each parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington may select one of its parishioners to receive a tuition scholarship of up to $11,000 over four years (up to $2,750 per year) at Saint Michael’s College. The nominee must be a first-year applicant for admission to Saint Michael’s College. The Office of New Student Financial Aid must receive your nomination for the scholarship by February 1, 2010. Please contact Fr. Ted for a Financial Aid Application.

MEMORIAL FLOWERS FOR CHRISTMAS

FOR ST. PETER – Envelopes are available at all the church entrances. For those not acquainted with the practice, an offering is made for the decoration of the church at Christmas in these envelopes and the names of those to be remembered (which you print clearly on the envelopes) are remembered in a special bulletin. Please drop your envelope in the offertory basket, mail it or drop it off at the Rectory Office before December 14. If you are a “shut in” and are unable to pick up an envelope, please call the Rectory during the week, and we will mail you one. Thank you.

FOR ST. DOMINIC – Your envelope packets contain a Christmas flower envelope in them. Please write clearly the names of those who are to be remembered so we do not make a mistake in the spelling of the names and drop your envelope in the offertory basket, mail it or drop it off at St. Peter Rectory before December 14.

Again this year, St. Peter Church will be having a “Giving Tree”. In the spirit of Christmas, those who wish may select a gift card from the baskets at the entrances of the Church. The cards have been made to reflect the specific needs of those families that we will be helping at Christmas. Here’s how it works:

  1. Take a gift card from the basket.
  2. Purchase the gift.
  3. Wrap the gift, put the gift card on it and bring it to Church.**

**If gift purchasing and wrapping are a problem, we will shop for the gifts and wrap them for you. If you would like us to do this, please take a gift card and then put your donation for that gift in an envelope, with the gift card and put it in the offertory basket. It is very important that the gift card be attached to the gift or the donation so that we know which family it goes to. Please try to bring the gift to Church as soon as possible. Deadline for the gifts to be here is December 14. Thank you.
